Saturday Talks: Eva Jaeger on Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst: The Call

  • Serpentine North West Carriage Drive London, England, W2 2AR United Kingdom (map)

This talk is led by Eva Jäger, the Arts Technologies Curator at Serpentine, offering an in-depth exploration of The Call, a groundbreaking installation by artists Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst in collaboration with Serpentine Arts Technologies. The installation proposes innovative cultural, legal, and technical practices for art within the age of artificial intelligence. At its core, The Call centers on developing choral AI models using a newly curated dataset of field recordings and vocal performances. Visitors experience this spatial audio installation in an immersive manner, interacting with the choral AI models, allowing their voices to blend and transform within the collective soundscape. The artists explore the idea of AI as a tool for community-building, merging individual voices into a cohesive collective, similar to how a choir operates. This event is an opportunity for attendees to not only experience the installation but also gain insights into the artistic process behind it.
